Jérémy Schimmel browsed through the archives of his own lineage for the inspiration behind his new brand conceived in the studios at 66 rue d’Hauteville that he has roamed since birth, smack dab in the middle of the fur district in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. A men’s collection of 12 leather jackets and coats harking back to period classics: bombers, pea coats and parkas with a modern sheen and that timeworn supple feel of leather that has seen it all. If these rugged well-earned creases could talk, they’d tell a moving tale worthy of box-office fame.
Jérémy Schimmel spent his childhood combing through flea markets on the heels of his thrift-shopping mom and later moved on to find one-of-a-kind treasures as a honed bargain-hunter. He has an innate sense of yesteryear gems and timeless objects that transcend fads of the past. Archives gets the balance right between legacy and avant-garde, time-honored craftsmanship and anything-goes experimentation, like a flashback to an era that tends to be drowned out amid the clamor for the hottest new thing. The past and the future are one and the same – they talk over each other as they mutually inspire and cross paths. Because all designers of every ilk and craft are inextricably part of a tradition they strive to reinvent in their very own art.
